中国历代版图变迁
秦朝是我国第一个统一的封建王朝，疆域辽阔，东至海，西至甘青高原，南至岭南，北至河套、阴山、辽东。初设三十六郡，后又在南越、西瓯故地及其相邻地区设置了南海郡、桂林郡和象郡。

西汉的疆域比秦代有了很大的拓展，这与西汉是一个统一、强大的封建国家不无关系。更是封建统治者具有强烈开疆拓土意识的结果！汉武帝时，汉军三战匈奴而溃之，使广袤的漠北地区出现了亭、驿相望于道的局面。西域诸国也臣属于西汉王朝，西汉政府在西域置都护府都护诸国。今天的朝鲜半岛北部，在当时更是直接在中央政府的统治之下。

东汉时期的疆域与西汉时期的比较起来变化不大，只是由于朝鲜人民的激烈反抗而在朝鲜半岛上的统治区域有所减少。三国时期的吴国还曾有过万人船队到达过夷洲（今台湾）。这是大陆与台湾交通的最早记载。

西晋在平吴后统一了南北，建立了统一的封建国家，它继承了东汉的疆域并拓展了在朝鲜半岛的疆域。

隋和秦一样，也是中国历史上的一个短命、统一的封建王朝，但它为后来的大唐盛事的繁荣局面奠定了基础。这个时期的我国疆域，西边已越过了里海，北边越过了贝加尔湖，只是在朝鲜半岛和中南半岛上的领土有所收缩。

明代时期的中国疆域已趋于稳定，包括中朝、中越边境在内的绝大多数东部、西部边境与今日的边境已无大别。

清朝是我国封建社会的最后一个王朝，也是封建主义中央集权空前加强的时期。中央对地方和对少数民族地区的控制是前代不能比拟的。在中央政府实际统治区域增加的同时，不可否认，清朝的疆域与前代相比收缩了不少。特别是1840年以后，更有分崩离析之感。
